Michael McLean Day was established in 2012 in conjunction with the Altona Hockey Club to recognize and celebrate the contribution of Michael McLean Snr to hockey at the Greensborough Hockey Club and to Hockey in general. Altona were approached to assist with the celebration as Michael had a strong affinity with Altona and they welcomed the chance to contribute to the event. The Michael McLean Day is held annually at the Greensborough versus Altona match held at Greensborough and Michael McLean Junior awards a Michael McLean medal to the best player from each club in both the Women’s and Men’s match. Hockey Victoria sanction the event and share in the promotion of the contribution that Michael made to hockey in this state.
